RIP Admiral Ackbar
Sad news as the Force Awakens comes out on blu-ray and dvd today.
Erik Bauersfeld, who died Sunday at the age of 93, wasn’t a household name. But his voice was famous — thanks to three little words delivered by a bulging-eyed, amphibious rebel commander Admiral Ackbar. He was also the voice of Bib Fortuna the alien we meet at the beginning of Return of the Jedi in Jabba’s Palace> Erik returned to voice the Admiral in last years The Force Awakens.
Admiral Ackbar was written as a bit part — a handful of lines in Return of the Jedi, most of them rather defeated. “Prepare to retreat,” “we have no choice, “take evasive action, “we won’t last long!”
And then a futile utterance — pointing out, too late, what Lando Calrissian had already realized. “It’s a trap!”

Sad to hear that Erik Bauersfeld has passed away, he voiced two great Star Wars characters, and he made Admiral Ackbar a inconic character with that classic, Its a Trap! line. His return to voice Admiral Ackbar in the Force Awakens was a memorable moment in that film as well.
