Great Horror DVDs

Posted in entertainment, movies, news on September 29, 2010 by chrisdsav

Dark Night of the Scarecrow came on dvd today, this is the original Scarecrow film. It is also the creeapiest killer scarecrow film I have ever seen. The movie is directed by Frank de Felitta and written by J.D. Feigelson it aired almost 30 years ago on CBS, as a made for TV movie. Once in a while they were good films. This was one of them. Its about a mental challenged man who is accused of killing a little girl, before the evidence is shown that he tried to save her a lynch mob led by a disgruntled postman kills him. Then days later one by one the people involved are killed off.  They use a sleight of hand tactic that allows you to never see the creature aka the Scarecrow killing any one. The director and the writer have a commentary on the dvd that is better than a behind the scenes feature, they really show a love for this film and give us a lot of great detail into its making.

JD will be on my show Oct 24th for an interview on his great classic finally brought to dvd by VCI Entertainment. Look for a more in-depth review then.

The Psycho Legacy comes on dvd Oct 12 from Shout Factory. This is a great documentary on the orignal 4 Psycho films. in it you have interviews with mostly people from 2-4 as it is sad to say most of the people who worked on the original classic have passed away. HOWEVER there is great archive footage of interviews with them from days long past. You also get to see a rare convention panel Q&A with Anthony Perkins the star of the 4 films. The documentary itself is about an hour and a half long. The bonus material makes it a full 5 hour coverage on one of the greatest films in cinema history. The bonus material is packed full of set visits and panel discussions, a walk thru with memorabilia collectors and so much more.

Oct 17th Shout Factory will be allowing me to interview the people behind this great documentary, more details on who they are as we get closer to that date.

Terror Thon 2010

Posted in movies, Places, radio of horror on September 25, 2010 by chrisdsav

First part of the Boston Terror Thon is over for now.

What a great selection of Films, I got to meet the director of The Hershal Gordon Lewis Documentry who also directed Basket Case and Frankenhooker, Frank Henenlotter. The showed two of GL’s films Blood Feast and the Original Wizard of Gore.

J Cannabal Black Cat burlesque show was something to see, the woman in it were amazing and the choreography was impressive. They also showed up clips from old Horror movies from our grandparents day and age.

The town of Somerville is a great little spot for this theater, its surounded by all sorts of differant restaurants so you can always find something to eat in that area. A excellent location for a film festival.

We will return later in the week, when we return to the festival for Dead Snow, Human Centapeed, and The Drive in Horror Show.

Unfortunatly due to financial problems Radio of Horror was not able to return to the Boston Terror Thon.

Psycho Legacy

Posted in movies on September 22, 2010 by chrisdsav

Shout Factory sent over a great dvd the other day. The Psycho Legacy, its a great 5 hour documentry on the Psycho films. They cover 1-4 on the main doc it self. I still need to view the bonus material but I can already tell its chock full of great information. This is mostly comprised of interviews with people from 2-3 as most every one from the original classic has passed away.
There is a few segments with interviews with Janet Leigh and a con panal with Anthoney Perkins, no interview with Hitchcock.
Check out the show this week end as we go over the film in more detail.

Burning Bright

Posted in entertainment, websites on September 6, 2010 by chrisdsav

Rented the movie Burning Bright based on a reconmendation by Uncle Creapy from www.DreadCentral.com. Check it out its not that great but the idea is worth a view of a orginal Horror movie idea.

Here is the original poem.

The Tyger
by William Blake
Tyger! Tyger! burning bright,
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire in thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, and what art?
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand, and what dread feet?

What the hammer? What the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb, make thee?

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright,
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
