Priest Hunter

Posted in horror, thriller with tags , , on May 13, 2020 by chrisdsav

Nothing is more real life Horror than Horror you experience and affects you forever. This is the case with the previous works of Skip Shea  a Thriller about a former catholic alter boy who meets the priest who abused him years ago. Now in the new film Priest Hunter which is the pilot for a tv show. The story of Priest Hunter explores the psychological trauma one would face in the wake of being sent free from a mental hospital and blends Shootie HG music which if you played any of the video games he has been attached too would be enveloped in this unique mix of musical art and weirdness that befits a story of a vigilante, a dark hero.

PRIEST HUNTER Pilot Now Available Online https://youtu.be/8biQdvE4Q68

From Shootie HG (Vocalist & composer of OSTs for Devil May Cry, Dead Rising, and Final Fantasy video games) and Skip Shea (writer & director of AVE MARIA, TRINITY and SEEDS) comes the pilot of the PRIEST HUNTER series they have in pre-production.

Origins: Shootie approached Shea while were working on Shea’s TRINITY and pitched the idea of PRIEST HUNTER – a concept that would combine Shea’s trademark of tackling clergy sexual abuse themes through movies with Shootie’s music.

“I thought about Skip as a reluctant vigilante in a fantasy scenario,” said Shootie. “The dark, strong, yet righteous theme also inspired me to compose the music for the pilot.”

“I loved the idea of combining our work,” said Shea. “I think Shootie’s music behind this pushed me to write a new level of violence than hasn’t been seen since my short films MICROCINEMA and AVE MARIA. But also to explore how a character deals with the reluctance of his role as a vigilante and how he grows more comfortable with it.”

Co-written by the pair, PRIEST HUNTER is about Dan, who has recently been released from a mental hospital and lands a caretaker job rehabbing an old abandoned property owned by the Catholic Diocese, with the help of his mother Claire and Father Daugherty.

Very soon Dan starts hearing a child’s voice that directs him to an old file cabinet that holds the files of every pedophile priest that has served in the area. The child begs Dan to exact revenge. He takes the first file he discovers, that of Father Bob, and decides to confront him.

The pilot, starring Damien Gaudet and Dynamo Marz,

Why You Should Watch Slasher

Posted in Canada, horror, thriller, tv with tags , on October 17, 2016 by Kristina

slasher_tv_poster

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Slasher, it’s an eight part mini series written by Aaron Martin. This Canadian mini series was filmed in Parry Sound, Ontario and Sudbury, Ontario. It premiered in March of this year so I’m a little late to the party, but better late than never!

It stars Katie McGrath as Sarah,  Brandon Jay Mclaren as Dylan, Dean Mcdermott as Iain, and Steve Byers as Cam.

In the first episode we see Sarah’s parents get murdered within the first five minutes when her father lets a strange hooded man into their home on Halloween(1988), thinking it’s his friend. That whole first scene was both very comediec and gory. It definitely had a very campy vibe to it, which was why I knew I’d enjoy the rest of the series so much.

By the second scene it’s modern day and we see Sarah and her husband Dylan moving into the home her parents were brutally murdered in. Shortly after they move back to town, a bunch of copycat murders start to take place and everyone in town is a suspect. Including Sarah.

I won’t say too much more because I don’t want to give anything away. However, if you’re a fan of fun, campy, and kind of cheesy horror, you will love Slasher. You’ll get lots of laughs as well as gore. As I said, it’s definitely cheesy, but the writing is there too.

I haven’t been able to find out any info about the release of season two, but season one will be perfect for you guys to binge watch this Halloween! I hope you all get a chance to check it out! Remember, support Canadian horror!

Rob Zombie’s new movie is GOOD its original in some ways. It’s like the Dangerous Game and he mentions this in the making of Q&A at the end of the movie. It’s not the crazy over the top nutty film that was Lords of Salem. I would compare it to The Devil Rejects with a more beginning middle and end. A group of friends get capture on Halloween night by Malcolm McDowell and his aristocratic formal wear wearing psychos. They are ten forced for the next 12 hours to play 31 and have to survive a death maze of killer clowns. It’s a huge list of who’s who in his movies with returning favorite Sherrie Moon Zombie and Meg Foster  and Jeff Daniel Phillips. I’ll do a more extensive actor list in another post about Rob Zombie actors. This is Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 meets the Running Man. If you love his music and want a decent not so over the top action flick for Halloween, then check out 31 you won’t be disappointed.

Don’t Breath

From the team that brought us The Evil Dead remake comes a movie so intense and with such a crazy secret it makes you rethink anything you didn’t like about the Evil Dead. Three friends try to break into the home of a Blind Gulf War vet and get more than they bargained for when he knows his home so well he can pick them off one by one. Stephen Lang is fantastic in this role as a the hero/villain/ not sure what to make of him after you learn what’s in the basement. I don’t want to give too much away but the best scenes are in the dark. You see the characters really trying to adjust to the darkness with their pupils really wide eyed and trying to find light it makes for an eerie experience that makes you feel like you’r there with them.

Kubo and the 2 String

That same studio that gave us Paranorman and Coraline and Box Trolls delivers another amazing weirdly done but still kick ass stop motion animation movie. This time the Art Director of those previous film Travis Knight directs this cool little film. If I had to rank Kub it would come behind Paranorman as my favorite from Laika. A boy goes on a journey to stop his grandfather by reassembling an ancient armor worn by his late father. Along the way he meets a Bug Night and a monkey and fights his even twin aunts played with such creepy voice over by Rooney Mara. They have those V for Vendetta style masks that look super creepy. Matthew McConaughey and Charlize Theron are fantastic  as Monkey and Beetle. ” If I’m called Beetle and your Monkey why is he not called Boy?” Best line in the movie.  The newcomer played Art Parkinson who plays Kubo is really good in his role.

My only problem with this movie and the other two above is NO ONE IS SEEING THEM we just want to be spoon fed fuckign Ghostbusters remakes like mindless drones who cant think for ourselves. What the fuck go see Kubo its an amazing story with great characters and not talking fish finding each other which we saw 12 years ago. 31 and Don’t Breath are original horror movies but nope lets go watch the same stupid crap Blair Witch movie coming out in two weeks over and over again. Get off your ass and support some art.

All these movies are playing at Blackstone Valley Cinema De Lux in Millbury MA.

The Handmaiden

New film from director  Park Chan-wook the man behind the thrillers Oldboy and Stoker

Starring Kim Min-hee, Ha Jung-woo, Kim Tae-ri and Cho Jin-woong

hand

His movies are always a real delight with great twists and thrills I am interested in this one coming out soon.

From PARK Chan-wook, the celebrated director of OLDBOY, LADY VENGEANCE, THIRST and STOKER, comes a ravishing new crime drama inspired by the novel ‘FINGERSMITH’ by British author Sarah Waters. Having transposed the story to 1930s-era colonial Korea and Japan, Park presents a gripping and sensual tale of a young Japanese Lady living on a secluded estate, and a Korean woman who is hired to serve as her new handmaiden, but who is secretly involved in a conman’s plot to defraud her of her large inheritance. Powered by remarkable performances from KIM Min-hee (RIGHT NOW, WRONG THEN) as Lady Hideko, HA Jung-woo (THE CHASER) as the conman who calls himself the Count and sensational debut actress KIM Tae-ri as the maid Sookee, THE HANDMAIDEN borrows the most dynamic elements of its source material and combines it with PARK Chan-wook’s singular vision and energy to create an unforgettable viewing experience.

“Expectations are fully met in Park Chan-wook’s exquisitely filmed The Handmaiden (Agassi),an amusingly kinky erotic thriller and love story that brims with delicious surprises.”

The new Vampire film from Emma Dark who came on the show last year to talk about it is now here. A dark and gritty action Vampire film from the UL it looks amazing. Emma did a great job and the cinematography looks amazing too. Not only does Emma star in the movie but she also directed it giving her extra chops and giving us more kick ass female horror directors. YOU CAN WATCH the video down below and don’t forget you can also check out her interview on my show last year. I find this better than Underworld and look forward to more form Emma.

HUSH

Hush_2016_poster

Wow what a great movie it just came out on Friday from Netflix about a deaf and mute writer who is stalked by a serial killer. No big spoilers about the movie but its a hell of a cat and mouse game. Ever seen Wait Until Dark staring Aubrey Hepburn of Breakfast at Tiffany fame? She is a blind woman who is not aware of the people in her house trying to find something she acquired by mistake. You will love this movie if you like that one. A great performance by Kate Siegel and Directed by Mike Flanagan (Oculus, If I wake). You will get a great creepy movie, watch it in the dark  if you can.

SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE

A fun horror comedy that had no right to be as silly and fun as it was. Everyone is trying to recreate the success of Shawn of the Dead and it seems only Zombieland really did meshing the Zombie Comedy Romance plot. A group of teenage high school boy scouts on a retreat discover people are turning into Zombies. They cowboy up with the skills they acquired as Scouts to help save their town. Directed by Christopher Landon ( Producer/writer of Paranormal Activity 2,3,4, and the Marked Ones) This was better than I thought it was going to be out dated stupid silly toilet humor jokes and Zombie strippers full of gore and blood, if that’s what you enjoy check it out.

10 CLOVERFIELD LANE

Did you think you were getting a sequel to the 2008 film. This is in the vein and related by the smallest detail. A woman played by Mary  Elizabeth Winstead is run off the road by John Goodman and taken back to the bunker and told their is a bio hazard attack and she has to live there now. Also in the bunker is the guy who helped build it played by John Gallagher, Jr who also plays the stalker in HUSH.   You really believe  his story until you find out a secret. I wont spoil it but you and every one else should go see this movie. If you didn’t like the shaky camera stuff you get in the last one then don’t worry its not here. this is a thriller that does become a sci-fi movie so there is a bit of a hint of what you think is coming.

DEATH NOTE

Posted in Cartoons, death, entertainment, news, thriller with tags on February 26, 2016 by chrisdsav

Super DUPER deluxe bluray set looks amazing and worth the price if you never owed the series before.
I was going to buy the dvd set at Bestbuy until I saw that this was coming out.

image

Deathnote is based on the hugely popular Manga of the same name  from Japan.
Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s suspenseful story follows Light a high school student who discovers a notebook with the ability to kill whomever he wishes. WRiting their name in it.
I jumped on this anime show a little later than most people had. I’m really picky about my Anime. A lot of the time the writing can be real dense and over wrought with drama and dialogue that is taking it self way too seriously.
Of course I watch a ton of Hentai and actually enjoy the narrative between sex secenes, so what does that say about me?

The list of bonus material included is worth the price point if 69.99

This limited edition 6-disc collector’s set includes the complete 37-episode series with five language options along with two feature films (available in three languages) and hours of additional extras! This definitive set also comes with a 64-page booklet, which features the original manga pilot story that inspired the series packaged inside an exclusive chipboard box. Three hours of additional extra content includes interviews with the Japanese creators, behind-the-scenes footage of the English and Japanese voice cast, production art, audio commentary and much more

I think the best part is you get two of the three live action movies. L Change The World  is not included.

If you have never seen this show before and always wanted to check it out this be a great set to pick up this Spring.

Mini Reviews 2016

Posted in ghosts, Japan, thriller, Zombies with tags , on February 12, 2016 by chrisdsav

Been awhile since I  had a massive thing of reviews on my page I thought I start with the 3 horror movies that hit theaters in 2016. Its all female horror as every film on the list stars a female as the lead character, sometimes the only character thru most of the films.

The Forrest

Forest

What a boring movie, based on a neat and original idea. Based in the Black Forest of Japan, Aokigahara Forest which is considered the number two spot to kill your self behind the Golden Gate Bridge.  Staring Queen Margaery of Game of Thrones,  Natalie Dormer as Twin Sisters Jess and Sara Price. Sara goes into the forest disappears her sister goes looking for her and encounters the Ghost of the Forest and a tour guide who may or may not be as he seems. Directed by Jason Zada writer of one of my favorite new Horror movies The House October Built it  don’t seem like its the same style. House really had a sense of a horror movie that kept you griping and I loved it and the original found footage move made. The Forest is needlessly confusing with little to no character development and barely any conversational dialogue. Over use of CGi and too little scares make it a mundane film.

The Boy

A long stretch of a movie that takes a bit too long to deliver the reveal of the movie. Staring The Walking Dead Laura Cohen as an American Nanny who is hired by a elderly British couple to look after their son only to find out its a doll made too look like their dead kid. I don’t understand who Laura hides her British accent as she her self is English and plays the American but at least its not the forced Southern Accent from TWD. I digress, the movie has this SHOCKING PLOT POINT revealed ( I’m going to spoil it for you The boy didn’t died he is a full grown man living in the walls.) It makes no sense how they get there. The entire time your thinking back after the reveal to the different clues they tried to leave behind and they don’t make any sense. This is an ok movie and better than the Forest but not by much. Directed by William Brent Bell who also did Stay Alive and The Devil Inside. Neither of which are very good either.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

zz2

Based on the book by Jane Austin and Seth Grahame Smith we have the classic story but now with Zombies. It is not the plot from Austin’s Novel blow by ZOmbie Blow but its a fun movie to watch. Lily James plays the heroine of the movie who can handle her self and does not feel as though she should marry if not in love. Something that is carried over in many of Austin’s novels. She and her sisters take on men with bad intentions and Zombies who want to eat them alive. She discovers a sinister plot and is swooned by a man she considers an ass hole thru most of the movie played by Sam Riley the infamous Mr. Darcy. Another movie staring Game of Thrones actors this time Cersi Lannister Lena Headey and her father Tywin Lannister Charles Dance.  We also get a bafooning Matt Smith which acts very much like the Doctor would in a Zombie Armageddon. There is something I really love about a woman in Victorian era dress killing Zombies swinging a sword. The movie is entertaining and worth a watch just don’t expect the Walking Dead Level of gore and violence as its PG13, most likely to draw in that younger audience who read the book.

Both the Boy and PPZ are playing at The Black Stone Valley Cinema in Millbury MA.

Fall Mini Reviews Part 1

Posted in Cartoons, Horror Movies, Monsters, movies, thriller, vampires on October 5, 2015 by chrisdsav

Hey every one been awhile since I did one of these the Horror movies have piled up on my so lets just dive right into them. We will have another list in a week or so as there are SOOOO MANY movies to go over.

Let start with the new kids movie

Hotel Transylvania 2

The sequel to the 2012 movie directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (creator director behind Samurai Jack and Star Wars The Clone Wars) brings back Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg Selena Gomez and more including Mel Brooks as Grandpa Vlad, in a funny Horror comedy for the family. I really enjoyed the first one and this one. It was recently announced by Sony they are making a part 3 but Genndy will not be returning. Mavis an John have a baby and Dracula is worried he wont be a monster. Check it out its awesome fun and just in time for Halloween.

Blood Sucking Bastards

A movie where Office Space meets corporate Vampires. Its a funny rom-com int he vein of Sean of The Dead. A office software programmer (Fran Kranz from Cabin in the Woods)  who says the worst thing to his smoking hot girl friend (Emma Fitzpatrick)  learns Vampires are taking over the office one employee at a time. With the help of his stoner best friend they have to take back the office one Vampire at a time. Brian James O’Connell directs one of the best sleeper comedies of the year.

BSB

The Visit

M Night Shyamalan has had a rocky career since the 6th scene. With a few hits and a lot of shitty films like The Last Air Bender and after Earth, this is the first one in a long time I can say I really enjoyed. Yes you do see the twist coming if you put certain clues together and pay attention but I didn’t and I’m glad cuz I was not spoiled on anything I didn’t want to see. A couple of kids go to visit their grand parents and they act like the craziest people you ever met. Its not the best thriller ever made, but its better than the last time he made a movie.
