Wolfenstein the Old Blood

Wolfenstein_The_Old_Blood_cover

A prequel to 2014’s The New Order brings us back to the dreaded Castle of Nazi Occult lore. The game has gone into the more sci-fi genre this time, rather than the supernatural horror genre Wolfenstein is known for, thru the first five chapters, the last three t becomes a horror game again.  In the new order the Nazi have won WW2 and its set in a cyber-techno steam punk 1960s. The Old blood is the prequel to that story. Set in 1946 and taking place just before the prologue of the New Blood. You play William BJ Blazkowicz (voiced by veteran voice actor Brian Bloom) who has been the series hero since Wolfenstein 3D in 1992. It’s your normal first person shooter combat and nothing new that you didn’t see in Wolfenstein the New Order. You never get tired of killing Nazi scum bags. It’s an 8 chapter game for 19.99 and available on the PS4 Steam and Xbox 1. Enemies are not the brightest groups you deal with. Having played Destiny you hope Bethesda games improves the enemy AI for the upcoming Doom4 using the Id tech 5 software.

This game has very little in the way of story and you go from one mission to the next killing Nazis and progressing to get to Deaths head (not to be confused with the Marvel comic character of the same name). In the New Order BJ had a lot more inner monologue and gets to know the resistance and even gets to have sex with Anya the resistance fighter a few times in the game. The game is more like B movie camp and that’s not a bad thing but it’s not great when the action never slows down but for 19.99 it’s a long game with pacing staying the same thru out. It will lead you to the final mission that BJ hopes he can retire from. That’s where we pick up his story in The New Order. When you get a chance to take a nap as was in The New Order you can travel to the original game in a dream sequence and play Wolfenstein 3D.  Enemies have cyber back packs that if you shoot will explode. Giant Juggernauts that looks like a Nazi Iron Man Mach 1 armor and killer Cyber men guard Dogs. You can easily dispatch enemies with a lead pipe in stealth mode as to not alert more guards. A quick stab happy attack and back to stealth. Shamblers ugly bloody Nazi Zombies become a pyro technique foe to recon with in Chapters 6-8, after the more cyber steam punk techno Nazi enemies.

Mick Gordon composed the soundtrack for this and the New Order. You will notice through the game clues and nods to great WW2 era films like The Dirty Dozen and Where Eagles Dance and Inglorious Bastards. This game does not require you to but the New Order to play it. It’s a stand-alone expansion which you can pick up the card at a local store containing a code or down load it by itself.

Holliston Returns in 2016

Posted in directors, horror, news, tv on July 20, 2015 by chrisdsav

When the sitcom Holliston suffered both the death of cast member and the folding of its network in 2014, the show’s future seemed grim. Holliston, which centers around the misadventures of two aspiring filmmakers, is set to return for a third season next year. Original cast members Adam Green (who is also the show’s creator, writer, and showrunner), Joe Lynch, Laura Ortiz, Corri English, and Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider will all appear.

joe and adam 2
The 10-episode season will premiere in the summer of 2016 on the GeekNation digital network, where real-life film directors Green (Hatchet, Digging Up the Marrow) and Lynch (Everly) already have a hugely successful podcast, The Movie Crypt. “It’s almost embarrassing to admit,” says Green in the official release announcing the deal with GeekNation, “but there we were on a quest to find a new outlet for Holliston where we could continue to creatively make the show our way, but also have it distributed on a platform where absolutely anyone who wants to watch it can easily find and enjoy it…and the answer was literally right in front of our noses the entire time.”

I have Met Adam and Joe and both have been on Radio of Horror

The film will premiere on July 20, 2015 at this year’s Fantasia Film Festival. Mark Ward, RLJ Entertainment’s Chief Acquisitions Officer, made the announcement today.

“We are so happy that Mark Ward and his helper elves at RLJ Entertainment, are releasing this film in the US,” said Hoban. “We couldn’t have hoped for better accomplices in our efforts to bring terrifying fun to the holidays.”

CHRISTMAS: a time of Joy, Peace and Goodwill, unless you happen to live in the town of Bailey Downs. Here, on Christmas Eve, joy is corrupted when a malevolent spirit traps three teens in a school basement intent on recreating a twisted version of the Nativity story. Peace is shattered when a family returns from a snowy forest with the perfect Christmas tree only to find something is terrifyingly wrong with their seven-year-old son. And goodwill is perverted when a not-so-nice family is hunted down by Krampus, the demonic anti-Santa Claus of Nordic mythology. Even Santa Claus himself is drawn into the horror when he has to fight off a horde of howling Zombie Elves before making his rounds. This Christmas, the creatures are stirring and they’re coming for you whether you’re naughty or nice.

Tim Seeley Introduces Blade’s Daughter

Posted in Comic Books, Marvel, news, vampires on July 15, 2015 by chrisdsav

Tim Seeley current writer on Grayson (the Spy adventures of the former Nightwing, Robin, Batman) have been so great I have not had time to read them, but I want to it combines James Bond with everything we love about Dick Grayson.

Tim is best known for creating Cassie Hack the Goth girl with attitude who runs all over the country with her side kick Vlad hunting down serial killers. Now he is tackling a new genre the Horror of the Marvel Universe.

While the vampires of the Marvel Universe don’t often cross paths with super heroes, there is one relentless champion they fear — if they’re smart. His name is Blade, but he’s also known as the Daywalker. He possesses superhuman strength, rapid healing and has declared war on all vampires who inhabit the Marvel U. That war has spanned decades and it’s one he’s fought both alone and with the aid of various allies like MI:13 or the Mighty Avengers.

SDCC: Snipes Says Conversations with Marvel Continue Beyond “Blade”

This October, the Daywalker’s vendetta against the supernatural becomes a family affair as writer Tim Seeley and artist Logan Faerber kick off an all-new “Blade” ongoing series, where the title character teams with his teenage daughter, a seemingly normal high school student named Fallon Grey.

With the series announced today at Comic-Con International in San Diego, CBR News spokeexclusively with Seeley about his take on the title character, the similarities and differences between new character Fallon and pop culture’s most famous female vampire slayer, Buffy Summers, and how the series will pit father and daughter against monsters even more terrifying than vampires.

Blade-1-Promo-by-Tim-Seeley-23c99

Tim says in a interview with Comic Book Resources

“It feels like those twelve years of writing teenage girls fighting monsters is finally being recognized. It’s like Marvel is saying, “Congratulations on your double PHD in ‘Adolescent Female Angst and Monster Stabbery.’ Have a job!”

As far as the Marvel Horror Universe goes, I’m really trying to delve into the vibe of the 70s Marvel Monster magazines — updating and tweaking that sleazy/sinister/sexy feel they had for a modern comics audience.”

He goes on to say how he was a big fan of Satana and other horror figures of the Marvel Universe.

Blade’s daughter will be 16 years old and work along side her father, fighting monster but not Vampires they don’t want to do another Blade vs Vampire story or Deacon Frost, which has been done over and over again. That’s not to say he wont come up against Vampires at some point, just not right away.

Marvel has had several Blade Comic Book series all which have been cancelled in a year the last running during the Civil War story line and was cancelled after 12 issues. He is a great character but has never had great sales. Even during the height of his popularity of the movies with Wesley Snipes he could not keep a series going.

Time will tell if Fallon Grey Blade’s daughter and Tim can keep Blade afloat. The book launches this October in time for Halloween.

Dr.Chris Record Spotlight: Ghostbusters

Posted in ghosts, movies, music, record, vinyl on July 10, 2015 by chrisdsav

Tonight because the director of that shitty all female reboot film put pictures out, we thought we talk about a much better film score. The original GHOSTBUSTERS .
In the picture below you can see the soundtrack along with the Glow in the Dark Record Store day single, that came out last year. This has four versions of the song on the record by Ray Parker Jr. The instrumental version, extended cut and th dub version. Now these have only been heard in the movie thru the scenes depicting the different cases the boys go on during their montage sequence. It’s been reissued once before at Hot Topics and you may be able to find it on EBay.

Then the main soundtrack has all the songs your familiar with the movie like Cleanin Up The Town by the Bus Boys and the main title theme by Elmer Bernstein and the Golden Torch Music Corp. It’s this beautiful eeire music that fits this spooky comedy.
Recently released on records is the soundtrack to GB2.
I recommend picking these both up make sure you leave the Glow in the dark record in the light for 10 mins to get the Glow effect to work the way you want it.

SCREAM Franchise

Posted in horror, movies, tv on July 3, 2015 by chrisdsav

On MTV this week they launched SCREAM the series, what better time to look back on the franchise and talk about the new movie.

MV5BMjE2MTU1NzAzN15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTQxOTg3OQ@@._V1_SY317_CR4,0,214,317_AL_

In 1996 Wes Craven gave us one of the most memorable films to breath new life into the Slasher Genre. The Genre had died in the late 80s and early 90s. SCREAM, directed by Wes himself and a script by Kevin Williamson, was a film that poked fun at the slasher film genre in many different ways. It was self aware of its own humor at the same time giving us a mystery of who dun it. They kill off the who think to be the main character played by Drew Barrymore right in the begining.. We get a huge cast of people who in the 80s may never starred in a horror movie. Faces from Friends like Courtney Cox and from Party of 5 Neeve Campbell. Along with David Arquette and Jamie Kennedy and Rose McGowen Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo). We even get Henry Winkler (best known as the Fonz from Happy Days) to play the Uncool uptight Principal of the local high school. You can compare this film to the Nightmare on Elm street with the high school setting and the kids getting along together. Certain shots are right there from those two movies and really show that Craven knows how to make a good movie with REAL people. not just people phoneing in their lines. One particular thing to note that is prominent the entire franchise is Marco Beltrami – Sidney’s Lament, a eerie score played in the movie that always sends chills down my spine. Scream 2 the cast goes to collage and we get two new killers. The opening kill is Jada Picket Smith. Scream 3 its Live Shreiber who is involved in this tiny plot line from Scream carried over into Scream 2, and he becomes a bigger character and no one really cares. Scream 4 its a bunch of new characters  people one of early kills is Anna Paquiun and its really confusing cuz they keep switching back and forth from the movie to the fake movie. They show us a few people getting killed at the begining of Scream 4.  With in the Scream films there is a series of movies based on the killings from the previous movie called STAB, and by Scream 3 we are already at STAB 3 by Scream 4 we have STAB 5

Now this film SCREAM 1,2,3 and 4 and the recently began TV show are in no way scary. You know who the killers are in Scream one its very obvious, S2 you don’t know who the hell they are as they are rarely on screen enough for you to really care and ask when were they in the movie. In 3 its a killer that is lame and makes no sense. They are trying to be the Godfather part 3. In S4 its too many plot holes and the killer is a really lame copy cat of the first movie with weird motives, SHE is also related to a character in the film.

Now that being said I do love the franchise I grew up with it and it came out when i was in highschool. and I grew with the characters. Horror franchises that came before it were out when I was in elementary school so i did not gravitate toward those films like I did SCREAM.

Now the TV series plot is, After a cyber-bullying incident committed by local high-school student, Nina Patterson, ( a video tape of two females making out) results in her brutal murder in the small town of Lakewood, the shocking violence stirs up memories of a killing spree from twenty years earlier that has haunted some, intrigued others and maybe just inspired a new killer. As he/she terrorises a group of teenagers, killing them off one by one. This is filled with a virtual unknown cast for me. Bex Taylor Claus is the only one I recognize from the tv series ARROW. The The series has its Randy Characters who is the brother of the two aformentioned lesbians. He spouts the rules of Scream and how you should follow them watching and living Horror movies. Mike Vaugh is the voice of the killer a voice over actor who has been on various shows. The Original Killer’s voice was done by Roger Jackson also known as the voice of MOJO JOJO from the Power Puff Girls.

Its a decent series more for laughs than horror, the tv series has only aired one episode so I can’t say much about it yet. I felt it was way more 90210 when I was trying to explain what the plot of the first episode was. It has the new Mask which is ok but its not the iconic mask I am used too and love so much.
All the films are on blu ray and dvd. The box set which contains 1-3 also has Still Screaming a retrospective documentary about the franchise, from the same people who did Never Sleeps again and Crystal Lake Chronicles.
