RL Stine To write MANTHING

Posted in Books, Comic Books, Marvel, Monsters, news, sci-fi with tags , , on December 9, 2016 by chrisdsav

News just broke that RL Stine the writer behind Goosebumps and Fear Street will be writing Marvel Comic Man Thing comicbook.

This has been a long time dream for the writer. Marvel offered him many projects but this one really spoke to him.

The horror writer, known for the young adult novel series “Goosebumps,” will make his comic-writing debut with the new “Man-Thing” series. The comic, which will be heavily inspired by the “Tales From the Crypt” comics of the 1950s, will feature covers by Tyler Crook and interior art by German Peralta. True to the 1950s horror anthology style, each issue will also include a short horror story written by Stine and drawn by a guest artist, the

Spider-Man: Homecoming Poster

We know who the cast is, there is not much to talk about with a film I have not seen yet. I’m very excited to see Michael Keaton playing Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture. I don’t understand how Hollywood has avoided casting a red head in Spider-Man for the second time. A REAL red head not a dye job blonde or burnette. Where is the ginger love????

I may be a horror host and love all things Horror…..but Star Wars and Spider-Man top that horror list any day of the week. It goes all the way back to my childhood. This was just released online the poster for Spider-Man Homecoming. The picture was snagged by Frightrags.

I’m really looking forward to this, his performance in Captain America Civil War was ….AMAZING

Hey guys for the last couple of years I been doing something with various guests called Film Dungeon Commentary where I sit down with someone and we talk about a film while watching it. this is not a parody riffing MST3K style commentary. this is just for fun, if you have seen the movie before and want to learn something extra about it. So far I have done , Bram Stokers Dracula, The Andromeda Strain, Trick r Treat, Howling 2, Fright Night Part 2, and Blade. Coming up next, The Beyond, Marvel’s Animated Doctor Strange, Man Thing and a  as yet undecided George Romero Movie.

Here are some of the commentaries I have done below check them out and leave a comment or two.

Tim Seeley Introduces Blade’s Daughter

Posted in Comic Books, Marvel, news, vampires on July 15, 2015 by chrisdsav

Tim Seeley current writer on Grayson (the Spy adventures of the former Nightwing, Robin, Batman) have been so great I have not had time to read them, but I want to it combines James Bond with everything we love about Dick Grayson.

Tim is best known for creating Cassie Hack the Goth girl with attitude who runs all over the country with her side kick Vlad hunting down serial killers. Now he is tackling a new genre the Horror of the Marvel Universe.

While the vampires of the Marvel Universe don’t often cross paths with super heroes, there is one relentless champion they fear — if they’re smart. His name is Blade, but he’s also known as the Daywalker. He possesses superhuman strength, rapid healing and has declared war on all vampires who inhabit the Marvel U. That war has spanned decades and it’s one he’s fought both alone and with the aid of various allies like MI:13 or the Mighty Avengers.

SDCC: Snipes Says Conversations with Marvel Continue Beyond “Blade”

This October, the Daywalker’s vendetta against the supernatural becomes a family affair as writer Tim Seeley and artist Logan Faerber kick off an all-new “Blade” ongoing series, where the title character teams with his teenage daughter, a seemingly normal high school student named Fallon Grey.

With the series announced today at Comic-Con International in San Diego, CBR News spokeexclusively with Seeley about his take on the title character, the similarities and differences between new character Fallon and pop culture’s most famous female vampire slayer, Buffy Summers, and how the series will pit father and daughter against monsters even more terrifying than vampires.

Tim says in a interview with Comic Book Resources

“It feels like those twelve years of writing teenage girls fighting monsters is finally being recognized. It’s like Marvel is saying, “Congratulations on your double PHD in ‘Adolescent Female Angst and Monster Stabbery.’ Have a job!”

As far as the Marvel Horror Universe goes, I’m really trying to delve into the vibe of the 70s Marvel Monster magazines — updating and tweaking that sleazy/sinister/sexy feel they had for a modern comics audience.”

He goes on to say how he was a big fan of Satana and other horror figures of the Marvel Universe.

Blade’s daughter will be 16 years old and work along side her father, fighting monster but not Vampires they don’t want to do another Blade vs Vampire story or Deacon Frost, which has been done over and over again. That’s not to say he wont come up against Vampires at some point, just not right away.

Marvel has had several Blade Comic Book series all which have been cancelled in a year the last running during the Civil War story line and was cancelled after 12 issues. He is a great character but has never had great sales. Even during the height of his popularity of the movies with Wesley Snipes he could not keep a series going.

Time will tell if Fallon Grey Blade’s daughter and Tim can keep Blade afloat. The book launches this October in time for Halloween.

Comic Book Spotlight: DEMOGOBLIN

OK so I kind of did one of these last year when Amazing Spider-Man 2 came out and we covered The Gentleman.(don’t bother reading it that whole story line Sony created will go no where now that they cancelled Amazing Spider-Man 3 and the Sinister Six movie.)
SO now were going back to Spider-man once again with more of a Horror theme covering The Demogoblin
Created in Spectacular Spider-Man #147 by Sal Buscema and Gerry Conway.

After losing fights with Spider-Man and the Green Goblin in Amazing Spider-Man #312, Jason Philip Macendale Jr., aka the Hobgoblin, took advantage of the Inferno crisis. (a X-Men Crossover that spread throughout the whole Marvel Universe, the closest we have come to a Massive Horror crossover event in the Marvel Universe.) Following several demons back to their lair and confronting their demonic lord, N’Astirh. N’Astirh was so amused by this human he granted his wish and unbeknownst to Jason grafted a demon to his soul and transforming him into the Demonic Hobgoblin.

Demogoblin 1

Once again defeated by Spider-Man, Hobgoblin teamed up with Carrion to take out Spider-Man and they were both caught in a gas Leak explosion in Spectacular Spider-Man #163. Doctor Strange tried to help Hobgoblin but he was too far gone at that point, in Doctor Strange vol 2 #11 during the Act of Vengeance, Strange cast a spell and made Jason believed his face had returned to normal, this only further drove him to madness.

Demo Goblin 2
Several months later in Spider-Man #6 & 7 he kidnapped a bunch of people and really believed to be on a mission from God, kept an innocent child to him self while battling Spider-Man and the Dan Ketch Ghost Rider. At this point Jason was so far gone and the Demon had taken over.

In Amazing Spider-Man # 334-339 and Spider-Man# 18-23 Hobgoblin was involved in both the Return of the Sinister Six and Revenge of the Sinister Six storylines, he had replaced Kraven the Hunter who was one of the original members but had died during Fearful Symmetry Kravens Last Hunt. He was still on a path to kill all sinners and believed Doctor Octopus group was the way to do it.
Shortly after he tried to pick a fight with Moon Night in Moon Knight #33 thinking him a sinner since he used to be a Mercenary, makes you wonder why he never went after the Punisher? Of course why didn’t he kill him self as Jason use to be one as well…thats a sin right its very confusing.

Demo Goblin 3
In Ghost Rider vol 2 #16 and 17, the Hobgoblin kidnapped Francis Ketch, Danny’s adopted mother from her church. He believed he was once again doing God’s work hearing her cries to God to save the soul of her daughter Barbara, who had died a few months ago. Danny as Ghost Rider, and Johnny Blaze the original Ghost Rider and Spider-Man showed up to stop Hobgoblin. They rescued Dan’s mother and noticed a transformation, as if Jason was fighting to get control of his body back.

demogoblin 5
In Web of Spider-Man #84 the two beings trapped in Hobgoblin’s body started fighting for control the combination of Hellfire form Ghost Rider’s Dan and John and the constant fighting had taken its toll on Hobgoblin and the demon separated from Jason in Web of Spider-Man # 86. Now he was called Demogoblin. Now the Demon wanted to kill Macendale for all the sins he had committed and hunted him down eventually teaming up with the Spider-Man Doppelganger in Spider-Man #24 during the Infinity War story Line. (Another Marvel multi book cross over)

Demo Goblin 4

During a cross over with Ghost Rider/ Johnny Blaze Spirits of Vengeance and Web Of Spider-Man, Spidey had to keep Jason alive to stand trial for a murder he committed. While in the sewer he ran in to Blaze and the Rider and Venom as they were hunting Deathwatch who was trying to resurrect their leader. It was a lot of characters and Demogoblin and the Spider Doppelganger were there. They failed to kill Macendale.

Demo Goblin 6
Demo then found his way into the messed up serial killer Carnage family during the Maximum Carnage story which ran thru all the Spider-Man summer titles in 1993. (too many to list here). The Battle waged all over New York with hundreds dead and only thru the combined efforts of Spider-Man, Iron first, Black Cat, Venom, Morbius, Nightwatch, Cloak and Dagger, Deathlok, Captain America, and Firestar were they able to stop Carnage, Shriek, Carrion, The Dopple Ganger and DemoGoblin. The Spider Doppelganger was killed by Carnage and the DemoHobgoblin was captured but got away shortly after. He would encounter Venom and Morbius the Living Vampire again in the Venom Sinners Takes All mini series.

Demo Goblin 7
In Spider-Man # 46,47,48 The Hobgoblin wanted to put an end to his demonic half once and for all. Having obtained ultimate strength from Kraven the Hunter’s son The Grimm Hunter, Hobgoblin got into a fight with Demogoblin in a church and while the church was collapsing around them, Demo saw a young boy about to be crushed and risked his own life to save him by Spider-Man. In doing so his strength gave out and he was crushed to death.

Hobgoblin later tried to kidnap his own son was foiled by Spider-Man and was sent to jail. Eventually got a cybernetic upgrade from Norman Osbourne was defeated by Spider-Man and then killed in jail by the original Hobgoblin Rodrick Kingsley in Hobgoblin Lives # 1.

Why did I start this with a minor character in the Goblin saga? Mainly because I always thought he was the coolest of the Goblins. Is he dead?? Well he was a demon from HELL, can you really kill them? Doppelganger Spider-Man came back in the 2012 mini Series CARNAGE, and no one seems to stay dead in comics forever. We shall see.
Not The End?…..
