End of an Era

Posted in horror, news, Technology, Toys with tags on March 14, 2018 by chrisdsav

Toys R Us is going out of business.

Big news for Horror sci-fi and fnatasy toy fans video game collectors and more.

After months of speculation and financial trouble in the bankruptcy process, the once-frequented toy store chain is closing up shop.

On NPR just an hour ago , Toys R Us alerted employees Wednesday that the store’s parent company would be closing all of its United States locations or selling them. The news comes just hours after the company announced plans to close all of its United Kingdom stores.

Toys-R-Us-Header

The information came from an anonymous source, NPR said, as the company has yet to file an official liquidation, publicly at least. That source said they’re unaware how long it would be before stores start shutting down.

Toys R Us, founded in 1948 at Children’s Discount Supermarts, was the go-to place for generations of kids looking to pick up the latest toy or video game. At one time, Toys R Us was a cultural phenomenon, and people knew the company’s name from shopping sprees on gameshows to the can’t-miss appearance of Geoffrey the giraffe.

With my local store there has barley been any employees to find help with.

Stores have already started closing as part of an earlier wave of shutdowns, so expect an official filing in the coming days.

Sectaurs – Warriors of Symbion

Posted in 80s, horror, Monsters, Toys with tags , on January 29, 2018 by chrisdsav

Death and Taxes are the only two things in life that will always happen and if there was a third it be boys love bugs. I know my son owns Hermit Crabs ( I know ‘not a bug) and loves Insects. In 1985 I never had a chance to buy these guys and I was always in love with the toys.

The commercials had their own story that ran alongside the He-Man Power of the Sword Movie when it first premiered and I was more interested in Sectaurs than I was learning He-Man had a twin sister. In 1990 I discovered the comic book by Marvel inthe 25c bin of my local comic book store. but still never the toys. Now so many years later I have at long last discovered this amazing new kickstarter,  They are only producing the two main core figures for now but lets hope we may one day see the rest of these awesome toys return.

Sectaurs is making a comeback with an all new line of modern 1/18 scale action figures!

I had to reblog THIS one from my friend Dan Kimmel, you can hear my co-host and I review this weekend on the show and on you tube.
Movie is playing at Blackstone Cinema Delux and Leominster Entertainment Cinema.

With Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor. Written by Ehren Kruger. Directed by Michael Bay. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, language and brief innuendo. 165 minutes.

“2001: A Space Odyssey” was 160 minutes. “The Godfather” was 170 minutes. There is no reason on Earth (or beyond) that TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION needs to be 165 minutes. It is a bloated, incoherent mess that may divert children (and grown-ups who enjoyed playing with the toys) who have turned the last three films into international hits. It’s a prime example of why box office is not a good measure of quality.

Written by Ehren Kruger, the once promising screenwriter who now makes a lot of money for “Scene: Good robots fight bad robots,” sets us up with Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg), a Texas inventor who is about to lose his home. It’s five…

Alien toys

Posted in aliens, Monsters, movies, SciFi, Toys on May 21, 2014 by chrisdsav

Re-Action toys has the Alien figures, a great homage to older toys from the 70s. At Toy fair we learned of some new figures coming from them all with that 70s style of toy.
Super7 Store sent me The Alien and Ripley , other figures are Ash, Dallas and Kane. Not sure if they are making the other characters in to toys. They look like the toys Kenner put out for Star Wars. The card the toy sits on also has that feel of old school toys. It be cool if they made the Nostromo ship to go along with them.

LEGO GHOSTBUSTERS

Posted in Convention, ghosts, news, SciFi, Toys on February 18, 2014 by chrisdsav

Finally here! Just in time for Toy Fair 2014, we have your first look at the official LEGO Ghostbusters set, and it is pretty amazing. This is fantastic if you bought the Lego Monster set and now you can have the two interact. Lego are very expensive but this is one set I am definitely picking up. They have Lord of the Rings and Marvel and DC and TMNT and a MONSTER sets what not Freddy and Jason and Michael. They have the some bloody body count as the monsters do and they made Lego’s out of the villains from Marvel and DC comics, are you really going to tell me Carnage, Dr.Doom, The Green Goblin, Dark Side and even The Shredder don’t have a huge body count??

The line was original conceived by fan Brent Waller.

We’re thrilled to take the ECTO-1 and minifigure characters from Brent Waller’s Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary project…” said the company in a prior press release. “This is an amazing model, and the set will be a fantastic representation of the cult classic film.

The LEGO Ghostbusters will make their debut in early June. Fans will have the chance to build brick versions of Ecto-1, the ghost-fighting team’s classic vehicle, and play with minifigure versions of Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore.
